Remediation

Remediation

For residents receiving provisional satisfactory, unsatisfactory or incomplete evaluations or are felt to be not meeting expectations for their level of training mentioned in each evaluation report, the following steps are taken:

  1. The Program Director meets with resident along with their mentor as soon as possible to discuss and review the in-training evaluation report (ITER) and all supporting documentations and the evaluation subcommittee reports. This will be followed by further discussion with the Evaluation Sub Committee chair to execute the remediation plans.
  2. If the resident accepts the designation, the Evaluation Sub Committee will follow the guidelines set out by the post-graduate medicine evaluation policy. A remediation plan with a specific time period will be developed under the supervision of evaluation subcommittee.
  3. The evaluation sub committee chair reviews the progress of the resident and the success of the remediation with the academic support faculty periodically and reports to the Program Director every three months.

Levels of remediation:

Level A:  The resident will review and personally reflect on their scores develop a personal learning plan.

Level B:  The resident will review their scores/ITER, and then develop a learning plan with their academic support faculty within a month of receiving letter from Program Director.

  • An individualized learning plan is to be developed with achievable timelines
  • The resident will meet with their academic support faculty every month.
  • A progress report will be reviewed by the Evaluation Subcommittee and then sent to the Program Director and the Mentor after a 3-month period where the resident has successfully met the goals or proceed to Level C support.

Level C:  The resident will review their scores/ITER, and then develop a learning plan with their academic support faculty within a month of receiving letter from Program Director.

  • An individualized learning plan is to be developed with achievable timelines
  • The resident will meet with their academic support faculty every week
  • An interim progress report will be sent to Evaluation Sub Committee Chair and to the Program Director every month.
  • The Evaluation Sub Committee in consultation with the Program Director and the resident’s performance will determine a final outcome of the Academic support.
